| When
Stephanie Strange moved from her native land of Texas in 2001,
she found a new home and a new career in Chicago, Illinois. After
just one
year as a Chicagoan, she decided it was time to stop working graphic
design and to embrace her passion of visual art. She now lives and
works
in a studio located on Glenwood Avenue in Rogers Park. Here she
explores a process of energy by using graphite, ink and paint on
paper.
Strange approaches drawing with a sensitivity
to process. Evolving similar
diminutive elements into larger bodies, she tells stories of energy
created
by the will to communicate. She considers the working relationship
of
medium and technique an exchange of information. Often choosing
pencils, pens, paints even typewriters for marking qualities; paper
for
abilities to receive marks. The images Strange creates are full
of depth,
tension, and movement.
