Smarty Pets Inc. is owned and operated by Rogers Park resident, Tyra Schutt. Tyra has over 35 years of animal care experience, beginning as a child in rural America. She has trained and cared for dogs, horses, cattle, cats, rabbits, rats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, as well as many other small furry creatures! “Animals are very intuitive,” she says. “They can see through the surface to the real you. This helps in caring for pets, because they know they are going to be loved and cared for.”

She is able to connect with her clients and become true friends. “We are always glad to see each other and have fun on our visits.”

Smarty Pets was officially launched in March 2006, but it's an idea that has been brewing for many years. After 15 years in corporate America, Tyra decided to put her business management experience to a good use. “I realized there is a real need in Rogers Park for a professional, bonded, and loving pet care service. With my experience and love for animals, I knew Smarty Pets was what i should be doing with my life and work.”

Smarty Pets Inc. is bonded and insured, and services are provided on a regular or as-needed basis and include:

What do you love about Smarty Pets?
(Ms. Kitty) They feed me! Oh, and they play with me, too, which is fun.

Where do you like to go on your walk?
(Libby) Well, I love the beach! We play in the sand and I find tennis balls. My Smarty Pets walker is pretty good at it.
(Abby) I like to walk around the neighborhood checking pee mail.
(Kitty) Why would I go on a walk when being at home is so much fun?

What about small animal care?
(Kaito) Well, I’m a small animal, but I heard Smarty Pets takes care of gerbils, hamsters, rats, mice and rabbits. I’ve applied to help out on those visits!

How do you feel when your folks go out of town?
(Libby) I miss them! But it’s nice to have Smarty Pets come over and feed me, scratch behind my ears and play with me.
(Pip) Yeah, they also change my litter box.
(Abby) It’s nice to have a walk during the day, that way I don’t have to hold it till dinner.
