Where were you born and raised?
In Rogers Park. My grandfather moved to Rogers Park in 1906. Three generations of the Fitzgerald family have been married at St. Jerome.

What are you passionate and how are you fulfilling your passion about?
Justice matters to me. Social justice, I have made important to whatever I am doing in life. At Howard Area Community Center we strive to help low income residents become independent. We help those who feel crunched down by society.

What do you like about Rogers Park?
This is the best place in the entire world. I love the diversity, location and the lake.

Which five people (living or dead) would you invite to a dinner party?
Clarence Darrow, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Napolean, and Pope John the 23

If you had one month to live, what would you do first?
I would visit with loved ones. I would spend as much time with my eight month old granddaughter as possible. I would also visit a few more counties. I am a county counter. I have already visited 2700+ out of 3200 counties in America.

What two establishments in Rogers Park besides your own do you tell your friends about?
The Heartland Café, Jamaica Jerk

Any life lessons you want to share?
When my daughters were little, I taught them to be good. When they got to high school, I said “no boys, no booze and no cigarettes.” In college, they heard the Golden Rule, also to never ride motorcycles or date republicans.

Why no motorcycles?
Life is insecure and risky enough.

Where do you see Howard Area Community Center going in the future?
I want to look at how we can best respond to the community. I also want to lead the agency in building a new modern home for us in which we can unify our programs
