Chicago Artists’ Month
is celebrating its tenth anniversary this
October. Throughout the month, the Department of Cultural Affairs
invites you to meet Chicago’s talented and hard working artists
--
printmakers, painters, sculptors, photographers, new media artists, and
more! Experience their work at more than 150 exhibitions, open studios,
demonstrations, workshops, neighborhood art walks and other events
taking place at galleries, museums, parks, cultural centers and artists’
studios in communities throughout the city. This year’s theme is
“Look
Now. Look Ahead. Look Out!” taking a closer look at the city’s
visual
art community – where we’ve been, who we are today, and what
exciting
developments the future may bring.
Rogers Park is the most culturally and economically diverse neighborhood
in Chicago. Located in the far northeast corner of the city, more than
80 languages are spoken among the community's 63,000 residents. In Rogers
Park, people celebrate diversity and value harmonious living. "In
a city made famous for an accepted and often enforced cultural and socio-economic
homogeneity within neighborhoods," says the Chicago Tribune, "Rogers
Park stands almost alone as an exception."
The festival was made possible with the support
of Lifeline Theatre,
Morseland, Heartland Cafe, Al Goldberg - Artspace RP, DevCorp North,
SSA#24 Clark-Morse-Glenwood, Devon Bank, First Commercial Bank, Ald. Joe
Moore, Rep. Harry Osterman, and countless volunteers and artisans.
