What:  The Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest (GAAF) is a free, weekend-long event that features artists, open studios and live entertainment on three outdoor stages.  Experience art, theater, music, as well as food and drink, on the cobblestone streets of the Glenwood Avenue Arts District in Chicago’s historic Rogers Park neighborhood.
What’s free:  There is no admission charge or suggested donation or gated point of entry.  The ambiance of the Fest is enhanced by the Fest spilling into the neighborhood and the neighborhood spilling unrestricted into the Fest.  Local commercial sponsors (see list below) provide the support to maintain the free festival and to keep artist participation fees low.  Visitors are encouraged to purchase arts and crafts, food and beverages.
Where:  The Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest takes place in the Glenwood Avenue Arts District on Chicago’s North Side, in the heart of Rogers Park, on Glenwood Avenue, 6900 – 7000 North (between Farwell and Lunt) and the 1400 block of Morse Avenue, steps from the Morse Avenue stop on the CTA Red Line. Outdoor fest and many art studios are handicapped accessible.

The Glenwood Avenue Arts District in the heart of Rogers Park, features numerous artist studios, music venues, theaters and restaurants and is fast becoming known as a vibrant and unique arts destination.  Lifeline Theatre, Theo Ubique and BoHo Theatre all reside on Glenwood Avenue.  These theaters, plus the Side Project, nearby in Jarvis Square, won 12 of the 27 non-equity Jeff awards this year, making this corner of Rogers Park the most awarded theater neighborhood in the city, two years in a row.

Rogers Park is the most culturally and economically diverse neighborhood in Chicago. Located in the far northeast corner of the city, more than 80 languages are spoken among the community's 63,000 residents. Rogers Park celebrates diversity and harmonious living. "In a city made famous for an accepted and often enforced cultural and socio-economic homogeneity within neighborhoods," said the Chicago Tribune, "Rogers Park stands almost alone as an exception." The Daily Herald reported, “Rogers Park, on the north edge of Chicago, offers an urban vibe, intimate but exciting theater, a variety of live music, good restaurants and largely free parking, and the glorious Lake Michigan beachfront open to all.”

GAAF 2008 Planning Committee:  The Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest is a broad-based, grass roots, non-profit event planned and staffed by volunteers. We are dedicated to remaining free to the public, offering low participation fees to artists, showcasing the artists and venues of the Glenwood Avenue Arts District, and retaining our unique and eclectic neighborhood character.  This year’s planning committee is Gregory Altman, Mary Bao, Diana Berek, Rene Camargo, Andy DeLaRosa, Jim Ginderske, Alan J. Goldberg, Brettly Kawaguchi, Neil Lifton, and Dorothy Milne.  The Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest is a community partnership with Lifeline Theatre, a 501(c)(3) organization.
